Park Slope design boutique Rare Device is proud to present In The Redwoods by California artist and designer Jill Bliss (jillbliss.com). Jill's work will occupy the entire front window of the shop and can be viewed from October 4 - 29, 2006. A reception for the artist will be held Saturday, October 7 from 12 - 4 p.m.

In The Redwoods features hand-drawn impressions of small details found within the larger-than-life redwood forest. The illustrations are mounted on wood and range from a tiny 1 1/2 x 2” to 4 x 6”. Also available for purchase will be a new limited-edition poster specially designed for the show. These items will be accompanied by limited-edition redwood-themed items such as totebags, wallets, journals, datebooks and button sets. Throughout the month of October, Rare Device will offer all of these items, plus Jill’s new journal and address book published by Chronicle Books.

Jill Bliss grew up on a farm in Northern California, where everything was grown or handbuilt, then graduated from Parsons School of Design and California College of the Arts. Her background is in fashion design, illustration and design theory and is heavily influenced by the natural world. Drawing, sewing, and meticulous hand-craftsmanship are all put to use while attempting to rekindle human interest in the small details within natural and handmade objects. She operates Blissen (blissen.com), an online shop that releases limited-edition work for sale by a small group of like-minded artists.

Rare Device offers 'good stuff for you and your home' in the South Park Slope neighborhood of Brooklyn, NY as well as online at raredevice.net. Owned by jewelry designer Rena Tom, the studio/storefront is a place to promote the offerings of small, innovative designers from around the world as well as her own work. Every object in the store has been chosen because it is either handmade, well-designed, useful, beautiful or all of the above. In its ten months of existence, Rare Device has garnered attention from magazines and websites such as The New York Times, New York Magazine, Time Out, Daily News, Lucky, ShopEtc., Daily Candy and design*sponge.
