She will be signing copies of her book on August 13, 2006 at 3:00 pm at Realeyes Bookstore. “Children of Plains Estates" is a book of inclusiveness. It crosses racial and economic lines of division. It's goal is to bring light to the struggles and victories of children. The goal of the author is to break down the barriers that separate us by forcing the reader to confront their own stereotypes and bigotries. AIDS, racism, child molestation, drugs, alcoholism, domestic violence, are not issues that happen to other people. They are issues that affect all of us. The purpose of this book is to begin the dialogue in order to confront the issues. No other novel has its pulse on the heartbeat of America. Ms. Milner is currently shopping her second book. Betsy's Literary Page wrote: "Claudette Milner's novel, Children of Plains Estates is the perfect definition for the melting pot called 'America.'" Milner made this statement about attending the Literary Festival. "I am excited about being a part of this event especially in my home city. Charlotte Mecklenburg has failed our youth. Our schools are not meeting current curriculum standards. They have taken the first step in accepting the challenge put forth by the court system by hiring a new superintendent of schools. This is only a beginning. In order to meet the goals of the state it will take a combined effort and commitment from elected local and state officials, the board of education, educators, parents and students. There must be an overhaul of the school board and county commissioners. It is time that our children become the priority instead of our sporting arenas and NASCAR. It is time we elect officials that are concerned about the education of our children. Let your vote count. It is time for the citizens of Charlotte to be advocates for our children.
