The worst rumors are going on about dear Doctor Watson, and I am going to lay them to rest right now. First of all Doctor Watson is not sexist. He thinks highly of women. In fact, when he play tennis with a woman player, he never minds losing. What does his attitude have to do with sexism? Quite simply, sexist men are often threatened by an athletic woman's capabilities (because these men are insecure). Dr. Watson likes women to live up to their potential. And at his laboratory, women scientists have the run of labs just as the men do. It seems to me he is for equal opportunity. |

I walk into my library and I see a sign facing me that reads, "Are you worth $528,000 less than a man?" I consider that "you" is referring to womankind so therefore this question applies to me. I inhale. I consider. I exhale. I come to the conclusion that I am worth at least $528,000 more than a man. "I" refers to womankind. Now, why would I turn the tables on the other sex like that? It's not very considerate of me, but I would like you to consider this analogy: You are having intercourse, and it is not dialogue. It is sexual intercourse. You are a woman, and it just so happens to be the case that the man is on top. You get tired of being on the bottom, so with a little seduction, you paw him onto his back. Now you are on top. Now you have turned the tables over, and you have done it so irresistibly that he doesn't seem to care that he is the one who is worth $528,000 less than you [rather than the way it used to be]. You [womankind] may feel like you are at the disadvantage with this wage gap, but with a little maneuvering and a change in perspective, you will be feeling $528,000 more significant than you feel right now. |

Imagine a world without television? For many people worldwide, and in developing countries, no one owns a television, and the nearest television is likely miles away. Lucky bastards, or unfortunate few? According to the A.C. Neilson company, ninety-nine percent of households in America own a television. I suspect the one percent that doesn't, is by choice. Sixty-six percent of American homes have three or more televisions. Guess I'm a minority here, as we have only one. At least only one working, plugged in television. This next statistic, is the one that really gets me. On average the television is on six hours and forty-seven minutes per day in a household. Wow! That's almost like an entire work day. That's 250 billion hours of television watched annually by Americans. Probably something like 60 billion hours in commercials alone. Just imagine the kind of things that could be accomplished in 250 billion hours? Staggering isn't it? Now, if television is not some form of drug addiction, then I don't know what is. |

Do you know what it feels like for a girl?! [A Journal Entry from Christine M. Biereth] I'm 28 years old, I'm Single and I live in New York City. I've been living in New York for almost seven years now - and I love it. I thrive on the dysfunction of the city 'cause it in many ways reflects my own. It"s given me a sense of belonging I've never felt before. New York is not just a city to me, it's a way of life. I can't quite explain it, but after years of traveling, searching and yet never really fitting in, I have stopped in the revolving door and feel at home for the first time. |

I recently shot a music video for local rap artist Theory. The shoot was for a concert scene. I had no idea what to wear, but I wanted to be cute like all the other chicks that appear in music videos. This wasn’t a drop it like it’s hot music video shoot (Theory is a female), but I felt the need to be sexy anyway even though I can’t even drop it like it’s warm. I just wanted to be cute on camera. I felt the pressure! |
