Literary critics feared that after the Soviet collapse, the easy availability of popular romance novels and thrillers would seduce Russian readers away from deeper works. Now they attribute a literary revival to the country's new authoritarianism.

Blitz the Ambassador Live

An eight piece band, an orchestral string section, a djembe.  These aren't the typical sights you expect on stage at a hip-hop concert. Then again, Blitz the Ambassador is far from a typical hip-hop artist.

Impressions of Jackson Pollock

I needed two visits to the recently closed exhibition, “Pollock Matters,” at the Everson Museum of Art in Syracuse, New York, to finally reconcile my feelings toward one of the 20th century’s most original artists.

Obama's "Union" Needs Jackson's "Justice."

Senator Barack Obama's tough talk is necessary, but Rev. Jesse Jackson's concerns are also important. While Obama is advocating for a more perfect union, Rev. Jackson is asking for a more perfect justice system. After all, a union can't be perfect without an underlying perfect association.

Will Barack Obama be the Next JFK?

Obama is asking us to believe in change, and I for one do. What is it about this man that makes us want to follow him? He is charismatic beyond words; he is hopeful, pregressive, intelligent, peaceful, inspiring and down to earth. He stands for something we sorely need in our declining country, change. On his website he has a quote, "I'm asking you to believe. Not just in my ability to bring about real change in Washington... I'm asking you tobelieve in yours." And it seems that America is ready to believe.
