From the stinging replies of Americas
"culture warrior," Bill O'Reilly, to the sardonic humor of Glenn
Beck and all in between there is a lot to be desired.
It may be naiveté as in President
Bush's remark about Islam being a "peaceful religion" or it may
just be that after all they are only political commentators and not
avowed conservative theologians. In either case, some who are only
slightly above novice theologians have to cringe from time to time
at what they have to say. |

Yes, I have Olympic fever. OK, maybe it's not quite a fever: more like a mild agitation. Nevertheless I have stayed awake way past my bedtime for several nights watching the athletes swimming, flipping, spinning, lifting, shooting and smacking (as in volleyball) their way to greatness.
Naturally, all this has got me to thinking about what the events at an "Advocacy Olympics" might involve (I'll admit that some of the late nights involved a glass of wine or two). What amazing feats do advocates and their coaches need to undertake to be gold medal winners in the process of advocacy? What kinds of events do they need to endure? Read on! |

Senator Barack Obama's tough talk is
necessary, but Rev. Jesse Jackson's concerns are also important.
While Obama is advocating for a more perfect union, Rev. Jackson is
asking for a more perfect justice system. After all, a union can't
be perfect without an underlying perfect association. |

I watched the HBO miniseries on John Adams
during the fourth of July weekend. The miniseries is based on the
book by David McCullough on the second President of the United
States. The movie portrays a somewhat vain fellow who was not a
very skilled diplomat and detested the notion of compromise. |

In a previous post, I discussed Obama's
positions on key economic issues. In this post, I will compare and
contrast the two candidates on those same economic issues. After
reviewing these issues, I am confident that you will conclude that
Barack Obama is a friend of working people while John McCain is a
friend of big business and the wealthy elite. |

Barack Obama’s pastor, excuse me
“former” pastor - like that makes a difference, the
hate spewing Reverend Jeremiah Wright has made a career of telling
his congregation to avoid “middleclassness” as well as
preaching to them from the pulpit about the superiority of being
“black” and embracing “black” values above
other values. Because, as we all know, “blacks” are
superior. Right? |

I wonder if they hear them sometimes when they are alone in their
offices, maybe when they walk into the chamber, as they are about
to decide the fate of the nation on issues such as budget
guidelines and healthcare, I wonder do they hear them, the voices
crying in the wind? The ones whose death they ignored with the
belief that it is better the one than the many, the
children’s voices, the men and women’s not silenced in
death but forever calling out for justice, do you think they hear
them, the voices crying in the wind? |

Eventually, if you want to enact positive
change you have to fight for that change. If you don't, you'll
just get more of the same. Right now America is in full retreat,
being chased from each hilltop by anti-American forces touting
their weapons of class warfare, rights descendant from bureaucrats
and mob rule where the minority is not protected. |

What happened in Iowa last Thursday gave
us a little idea of what the United States is willing to do for the
next presidential elections. Though the selection process consists
of a long way; Obama's victory in the caucus with some 38% of the
vote marks a turning point in the US political history. |

Six months ago I glanced at the political
campaign sign of this little known candidate on the corner of my
street and thought he was running for the local school committee. A
few weeks later I learned that the man is a doctor and military
surgeon. He is 72 years old and a ten term Republican congressman
from Texas running for President of the United States in the 2008
election. |

The election results from Iowa were
everywhere this morning. Pundits in newspapers and on television
and radio were proclaiming the rise of Barack Obama and Mike
Huckabee. The experts were examining the disappointing results from
Iowa to the campaigns of Mitt Romney, Hillary Clinton, Fred
Thompson, and John Edwards.
In case you were not paying attention to
the constant political analysis of the Iowa voting totals this
morning, Mike Huckabee beat Mitt Romney by 9% and Barack Obama beat
Hillary Clinton by almost the same margin. In fact, Edwards and
Clinton finished well behind Obama in second and third place
respectively. |
