The word masturbation comes from the Greek word mezea meaning penises, and a Latin verb masturbare that means to taint by hand or to agitate by hand. As we can see, it is a very "male" word but we all do it, only a few people will admit it to but studies show that 9 out of 10 people do it. So it may not be a public thing, but it is the "in" thing for a lot of people.
The word masturbation in itself can be defined as intentional self stimulation of one owns genitals or other zones of the body that bring on pleasure. As the word itself suggests, a persons hands are generally used to arouse the sexual organs or pleasure spots of the body that may result in orgasm or two. Men will usually do this by petting or caress their penis with their hands or touch the other erroneous zones like their scrotum or anus at the same time. Women often rub their whole vagina lightly or gently stroke the sides of the clitoris and the minor lips or inner lips. Some women in chorus play with their nipples as well.
Masturbation is commonly referred to a sexual activity that is done alone, autoeroticism, but this can be a sexual act between two or more consenting people. This sex act is referred to as mutual masturbation. This is where one person will stimulate their own genitals or their partners at the same time or alone for the other to watch. Women can masturbate almost anytime and anywhere, in the bathtub or shower, using the warm running water to stimulate the clitoris; this is a favorite spot for a lot of women to masturbate. Lying face down on the floor or bed, one may straddle a small not so soft pillow, the corner or edge of the bed or a chair, some women scrunched-up clothing and rub their vulva and clitoris back and forth against it. If a woman chooses to stand up, the corner of an item of furniture works great, or even a washing machine on spin cycle, it sounds funny, but it work because it can be used to stimulate the clitoris through the labia and clothing.
What most people do not know is that masturbating has be done since the beginning of time and it has only been in the news and studies have been done on it as early as the 1960's. It's human nature!
